Early Spring 2025

Dear Friends and collectors,

I am in the South of France just finishing up a residency at Eze above the Côte d’Azur. Although the calendar says spring is here, for the past two weeks, Eze has been in the grip of winter! This was particularly challenging residency due to rain, wind, and freezing temperatures so I found a different way to work. The Eze botanical garden is located at the top of a steep hill just above its namesake authentic medieval village. Fortunately, my apartment was at the top of the village, as is the beautiful municipal gallery that the city of Eze allowed me to use as an exhibition and work space during my residency so I could leave the wintry conditions in the garden and work in a more hospitable space.

While the weather was uncooperative, I worked from memory, drawings, and of course, my iPhone. The resulting pieces are much denser than my usual paintings with more highly concentrated color. I was completed four canvases and three included the long perspective with the sea. I’m very satisfied with the results of this residency in such a marvelous setting.

My other very special news is a solo exhibition here on the French Riviera at the spectacular Villa les Camélias, Museum of Cap d’Ail, displayed from April 4 to May 17. The exhibition features 22 medium and large format paintings canvases as well as nine framed pastels, from various residencies in the South of France. It is an honor to have a solo museum show, and I am proud to invite you to this event! There are many activities during the six weeks of exhibition: a workshop on pastel painting that I will do on April 13th, as well as conferences and readings featuring poetess Sabine Peglion, and other conferences on plants, astronomy. Please see attached program and attend if you are able. I also filmed an interview that will be published on my YouTube channel that will be available very soon.

Sharing my happiness of spring with you,

In Art,
Gianne
