Dear Friends and Collectors

Pastel is an often overlooked medium that I find intensely satisfying. My pastels are focused on simple bouquets, rendered in a contemporary way. I did a series of small 9×12” pieces, using a vase collection from my mother and grandmother, and the resulting pastels are fresh and immediate. I chose flowers from around my neighborhood, letting spontaneity and intuition guide me. These pieces capture the movement, mood, and the moment in the studio while I was working. To view all 10 pieces, kindly click on “More Images” located on the right. If you’re interested in purchasing any of the pieces, they are available for $350 each and are unframed. Don’t hesitate to inquire about them.

One of the joys of being an artist is sharing how I create art. I’m very fortunate to have several places where I conduct annual classes, including a sold-out session last weekend at Sunnylands Center & Gardens in Rancho Mirage. My upcoming workshop at Sherman Library & Gardens will be a pastel session on March 1. There is still space available for this fun two-hour session where participants take home a pastel still life. I am also teaching a multi-day 6-hour class at the Susi Q in Laguna Beach March 6-8. The Laguna Beach Independent just wrote an article profiling me and this upcoming class. Read the article here.

I will be teaching this contemporary approach in my workshops, steering the participants away from traditional tight rendering to a looser and more ‘edgy’ composition. I will be posting pictures of the workshops on my IG account; they will be fun! Please join me if you can.

Yours In Art,
Gianne
